All About VW Performance Engines
From Hot VWs magazine.
Info at their web site. http://www.hotvws.com
Use the "Engines" button.
This book is great. Anyone customizing an engine must buy this book.
Along with all the other wonderful stuff it has details on how to tune
(set the jets) on the Weber DFEV / DFAV carb.
This book has extensive dyno testing of actual engine output (sadly,
the Weber DFEV was not dyno tested.) Very, very useful. The most horsepower
at 2500 rpm from a 1600cc engine is the stock 34 PICT 3 carb, newer
intake center section ( 1 mm larger), and a merged header! Dual carbs,
fancy heads, etc. were are lower horsepower at 2500 rpm. The dyno testing
covers 40 different engine setups from total stock 1600 cc dual port,
to a 2332 monster with every trick. This chapter alone will help you
choose the right set up for your Bug.
Other chapters cover stock 1600 rebuild (in detail), a strong daily
driver 1776, turbo charging, monster stroker engines, a chapter on the
Type IV, the Weber carb chapter, a whole chapter on pistons, the vintage
VW daily driver, VW specs, sealants and gasket products, engine removal
(this is great), Solex 34 PICT 3 tuning/repair, and an article on crankshaft
end play.
