Reach behind the instrument cluster to remove the speedometer cable. You have to do this by feel. The speedo connector is kind of round, and must be squeezed to releast the locking tab. It pulls off forward (towards the front of the car).

Here the instrument cluster is finally free, and I've tilted it forward. That white thing sticking up is the back of the speedometer.

The speedo cable snaps onto that thing. The cable has a center drive shaft that has to go inside the speedo, and a connector that clicks onto the outside. You have to remove and re-install the cable/drive by feel only.

I think it is pretty easy, once you get the hang of it, but it is a real challenge the first time.
